The redirect service will be provided in cases where the organizations have shown to the satisfaction of the Web Committee, that their public image supporting the University strongly suggests simplifying their URL to a shorter version (i.e. large media organizations with oral or printed URL publication needs). The following items will need to be taken into consideration:

1. Web address will be of the form www.valpo.edu/xxxxx (i.e. we will not host new domain names).
2. Organizations must be officially recognized VU organizations.
3. Personal home pages will not be given this privilege.
4. Full-time active faculty or staff member must sponsor and request both the redirect and the pages. Said member of VU must be a member in good standing or advisor of the organization; hosting may cease whenever either of these conditions ceases to exist.
5. Redirects must exist only on the same web server as the pages.
6. Redirects are an exception and are not standard operation as it introduces additional management complexity and the possibility for conflicts.

This policy was drafted by the Web Committee on January 8, 2001. It is being applied provisionally, pending approval by appropriate authority.
