General
Horizontal Fiber Optic runs offer high speed connectivity to the desktop and future-proof the installation of cabling in a new construction. In addition to data services fiber optic cabling can be used for video conferencing and enhanced multi-media services. The installation of fiber optics to each port enables EIS to provide high quality information services to any place in the building without requiring additional installations when the service is needed. Due to lead time required to install this cabling and installation complexity it is not feasible for this to be installed "on-demand"
Installation
Fiber optic cabling has become far more rugged in recent years as installation has become popular, however, the cable is still glass and must be handled with care particularly when non-armored fiber optic cable is being used. A certified fiber optic and cabling installer must be used when installing fiber optic cabling. All requirements for cable bend radius, pull and installation tension must be strictly observed.
Testing
All Fiber Optic cabling must be tested end to end and meet specifications as established by EIS for the project. Detailed test results for each cabling run must be provided both in print and on diskette/CDROM to EIS.
EIS may opt to independently test and verify any installation prior to acceptance.
