Inter-Building Telecommunications: Entrance Facilities
Explanation
Entrance Facilities are located immediately where Telecommunications Cabling enters a building. The distance between the penetration of the outer wall and the Entrance Facility Termination may not exceed 50ft in accordance with Telecommunications Carrier Standards.
Requirements
- ANSI/EIA/TIA 569 requires a locked and dedicated room.
- Cabling should enter the building at two distinct locations. It is often practical to locate the Entrance Facility in the Basement of a building in the middle between those two locations. Otherwise two entrance facilities are required.
- Size: minimum 12'x12'
- Room: No drop ceiling; all surfaces treated to reduce dust; sealed concrete floor; walls/ceiling white or light pastel color; 3/4" plywood back-boards (painted white) mounted on the walls.
- Location: away from Electro Magnetic Interference (less than 3 V/m interference across the frequency spectrum)
- Use: Exclusive Use; no piping (especially water), ductwork, mechanical equipment, or power cabling should pass through the room.
- Lighting: Flourescent Lights at about 8.5ft height providing 50 footcandles at 3ft.
- Electric: 6 quad 110 VAC outlets on separate 30A circuits. (Verify equipment power requirements prior to installation; 220V services may be required)
- HVAC: 24hrs/day year-round @ 64-75F, 30-55% humidity, positive pressure.
- Security: Heavy-Duty lockable door on a separate (EIS only) core; door swings open to the outside ONLY; Required electronic (swipe-card/proximity) security (Blackboard Transaction System).
- Multi-Use Facilities: If facilities are combined (e.g. IDF & MDF) the sum of the requirements for any individual facility must be provided.
- All Cabling must be routed in cable tray.
