Connectivity
Every Building must be connected to the campus telecommunications backbone via two distinct connections. Each of these connections should enter the building at a separate location using separate manholes. This provides redundancy of connectivity for the building in the case of a cabling cut on the campus backbone.
Capacity
It should be considered that a few years ago the capacity of telecommunications facilities in use today was considered outrageously large. This fact strongly suggests that telecommunications facilities installed in buildings should have a capacity far exceeding today's demands. It is very important to note that it has proven far more cost effective to build capacity into a new installation than to retrofit an installation later on.
Impact
A building's telecommunications facilities provide services ranging from business productivity to life-critical services such as fire-alarm signaling and 911 emergency services access. Constant availability of high quality and high performance telecommunications services is a necessity to the functionality and safety of a facility.
