OneCard Access for Res Hall Doors to be Implemented for 08-09

By Tim Jenkins, Dean of Students

As the needs of students and the institution evolve over time, opportunities for enhancing safety programs and the safety features of residential facilities have been identified. Examples of both have included attention to lighting and landscaping, locking exterior doors and funneling foot traffic through one entrance, registering overnight guests, hiring Desk Attendants, and conducting various safety educational programs.

When students return to campus for the 2008 – 2009 academic year, they will find yet another safety enhancement, this one focused on accessing the residence halls. Toward that end, the current key access system will be replaced with a card access system for the front doors. A variety of options exist for programming student ID cards for allowing access to specific buildings at different times of the day or night, and these will be discussed during the summer. Specific information about the new card access doors will be provided to returning students by the end of the summer.
