From Bricks to Clicks: May Workshop
By Jen Gregory, Director of Instructional and Learning Services, IT

Now that the internet is a more accessible and convenient place to visit, millions of people around the world visit the internet for all sorts of reasons. You can do your banking online, you can buy and sell goods online, you can make friends, or even meet your future mate online. Given the ease with which other business transpires online, students are looking for opportunities to continue their education online.
This May the Instructional Design and Faculty Consulting Center (IDFC) staff will be presenting workshops designed to help you convert your “on campus” course to an online course. The workshop will be presented on May 20th and repeated on May 21st to help accommodate the Summer I teachers. After the workshop, the IDFC staff will be available to work with you throughout the development of your online course.
To help encourage this type of outreach, the Provost’s office offers a strong incentive for developing an online course over the summer: $1,000 for developing a new course for the first time; $750 for the second time; and $500 for developing a third course. As Renu Juneja, Associate Provost, will also point out, you also get “the gratification that comes from knowing that you are helping the University move forward.”
If you are interested in meeting your students online, contact the Provost’s office. Attendance at the workshop will be limited to 15 people. Participation in the workshop will be determined on the basis of the centrality of the course to a particular program and its appeal to a large number of students.
