Have you tried an online conference with the Writing Center?
Email conferring works well for people with tight schedules and longer papers. In an email conference, the consultant can spend more time reading and thinking about your text. You will receive marginal notes, questions, and a general comment. To help the consultant, include the name of the course, the assignment, and your specific concerns. Turn-around time for email is about 24 hours (not Saturday). Send to writing.center@valpo.edu .
IM exhange (9-10:30 PM Sun-Thurs) is perfect when you need encouragement or have a citation question. Or maybe you need to bounce a thesis idea, or even whine a little! A consultant will be there for you at screen name VUWCafterhours.
GroupWise Messenger
Ever wanted to get a hold of a professor, but just couldn't seem to make it during his or her office hours? How about getting in touch with a classmate or new friend without recalling their AIM name off the top of your head? If so, GroupWise messenger may be just what you're looking for. You may have read about GroupWise Messenger in a previous edition of SummIT, but haven't gotten around to checking it out yet. Give it a try and you'll find it's a great way to get in touch with anyone at VU.
Just go to http://www.intra.valpo.edu/res/software and log in with the same username and password you use for your GroupWise e-mail account. Here you'll find a link to the GroupWise messenger client download page, complete with installation instructions. Once you get the program up and running you can add anyone at VU to your contact list based on their real name, not some convoluted screen name they probably made up in the sixth grade! Also, GroupWise Messenger doesn't have those annoying popup video ads to deal with. Go ahead, give it a shot!
MS-IT
The MS in Information Technology program will prepare students having undergraduate background in computer science, engineering, information technology, or related fields with the knowledge, skills, and perspective for successful careers in the field of Information Technology.
This rapidly growing field will need the kind of highly trained students graduating from this program. Look for more information in future issues of SummIT. The organization is still in the process of finding students from any graduate program to serve on the Management Committee. The executive and managing committees will meet on a regular basis to plan and organize events.
