Improvements to Classroom Technology

By Jen Gregory, Director of Instructional and Learning Services

Technology has become such a way of life for so many of us.  If we’re not talking on our cell phones then we’re on the Internet or checking our mail.  This ease with technology is mirrored in our teaching and learning.  Faculty and students want more access to academic technology and , the need for classrooms equipped with the means to transmit that technology has also increased.

This past March, four additional technology classrooms were completed.  Meier 135 and 136 as well as Mueller LL3 and LL20 were furnished with new screens, projectors, and carts containing document cameras, computers and VCR/DVD combo units.  Classes in CORE, English, Political Science, Economics, Theology, French and Spanish were able to incorporate technology into their class structure.

Keeping the nearly sixty tech classrooms up and running is no small order.  Recently, Christopher Mojica joined the Instructional and Learning Services group in the Office of Information Technology as the Classroom Technology Specialist.  Chris has several years of classroom technology experience and has hit the ground running here at Valpo.

At any given time, a dozen or more classrooms need repairs and others require routine maintenance.  Additionally, Chris is helping provide video conference services to several departments on campus.
