Technology & Computing

You do not have to have a computer to get through law school. So, we do not require them of our students.

Technology is, however, a marvelous tool. At Valparaiso University School of Law, we believe it must be used as an option, not as a crutch.

We have two computer labs in the Law Library for general student use. All law school network features are available in the labs. The Law Clinic has a third computer lab dedicated to students enrolled in the clinical program.

Every law student is provided free e-mail and has the ability to use the University's free dial up service from their home or apartment (through which they can access legal research programs).

Valparaiso University School of Law features a wireless network system. If you have a laptop and wireless card (usually built-in to the laptop) you can access the School of Law network anywhere in the building -- classrooms, student lounge, library, you name it. And with electrical outlets at every seat in every classroom, you need not worry about running out of battery life in the middle of class.

Want to know more? Buying a new computer and want some advice? John Obermann (ext. 7877) is our resident computer guru. Before calling or e-mail John, you might find the answer to your question on his Valparaiso University School of Law Technology FAQ page.

The University's Campus Office of Information Technology may also be able to answer any other questions you may have about e-mail or general network usage regulations.
