Summer Public Interest Scholarship

The Valparaiso University School of Law encourages students to explore public interest work over the summer after their first or second year of law school. To assist those who work for no compensation in meeting their law school expenses for the following school year, a Summer Public Interest Scholarship was established. Public interest jobs may include such things as working for legal aid, state or federal agencies, or non-profit organizations. Applications are available before Spring break and due by the end of April.

Awards will be made prior to the end of final examinations; however, all scholarship awards are conditioned upon successful completion of the public service position (which is confirmed by a letter from the student¹s employer) and are applied toward the following academic year tuition costs.

The scholarship program is administered by Kim Bubac, J.D. She is our Public Interest Counselor for the Career Planning Center and she may be reached at 219-465-7967. We encourage all first year students who are not working at a firm or corporation or who are not attending summer school to apply for a public interest position during the summer.
