Instructions for Admission for International Students - JD and LLM
We are pleased that you are considering Valparaiso University School of Law as your university for legal studies in the United States. The following is basic information you should consider when applying to the School of Law. Please also review the Information for International Students where you will discover the opportunities, programs and services available to you at Valparaiso University.
Admissions
The following items must be received before the Admissions Office can act upon your file.
- Completed LL.M. School of Law application and $60.00 (USD) application fee OR Completed J.D. School of Law application and $60.00 (USD) application fee.
- Academic records. Certified copies of the original and English versions of all of your university academic records and transcripts.
- A copy of your passport.
- Affidavit of Financial Support. The University is required by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service to determine that you have sufficient resources to cover all of your expenses while in the United States. Therefore, a notarized statement of financial support must be submitted, as well as supporting documents.
- Proof of Language Proficiency. Satisfactory completion of the INTERLINK language program, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 575 (paper) or 230 (computer), or the equivalent, is generally required for admission.
- For the LL.M. Program, it is recommended that we receive your completed application with supporting documents three months prior to the term in which you want to enroll. For the JD Program, the application deadline is April 1. When your file is complete, it will be submitted to the Admissions Committee for review.
Costs for 2007-2008
All international students must make their own arrangements for financing their expenses at Valparaiso University School of Law before they arrive in the United States. An estimate of expenses, not including vacations, for two semesters is as follows:

Estimated living expenses: $11,110
Estimated Health Insurance: $600
Total: $42,918 U.S. Dollars
Health Insurance
Valparaiso University requires that all international students enroll in a special insurance program (limit of $250,000.00 U.S. Dollars) in case there are major medical expenses. However, if you can document that you have comparable insurance coverage provided by your parents or sponsor, you need not enroll in the University program.
