The Summer Public Interest Scholarship (SPIS) was established to encourage first year and second year students to explore public interest work over the Summer. You are eligible for the SPIS if you are working for a public interest employer during the Summer of 2009 and are not receiving compensation for your work and are not receiving school credit.
Applications for the Summer of 2009 will be e-mailed to first year and second year law students the week of February 2, 2009. You must secure employment with a public interest employer prior to completing the SPIS application. Public interest positions may include employment such as working for a legal aid organization, non-profit organization, governmental agency, prosecutor's office, public defender's office, or clerking for a judge. The deadline to submit the SPIS application is April, 3, 2009. SPIS award decisions will be made on or before May 8th.
If you need assistance with your public interest summer job search or have any questions regarding the SPIS program, please contact Kim Kass, Associate Director of Career Planning at 219-465-7967 or at kim.kass@valpo.edu.
