The Valparaiso University School of Law has offered thoughtful continuing legal education courses for over 30 years. Our goal has always been to provide programming that meets a specific need, particularly for the young attorney.
As early as 1992, the American Bar Association’s MacCrate Report on Legal Education and Professional Development noted that the new lawyers needed additional instruction in five skill areas deemed essential throughout a wide range of legal practices: legal research, factual investigation, communication (writing), counseling, and negotiation. The sentiments of this report have been reinforced and expanded in the more recent Carnegie Foundation book, Educating Lawyers; Preparation for the Practice of Law (2007).
In response to this need, because Valparaiso’s School of Law has exceptional strengths in these skill sets, the law school will offer expanded continuing legal education (CLE) courses in 2009-2010. All courses will take place on the campus of Valparaiso University. Specific building locations and course times are listed with each course.
