Law, Poverty, and Economic Inequality

Conference Information

April 3-4, 2008 | Valparaiso University School of Law

Poverty and persistent economic inequality have differing consequences but, often, overlapping impact on vulnerable constituencies--among them children, minorities, indigenous communities, immigrantes and refugees, women, and the elderly.

This April, scholars, advocates, and policymakers will gather at Valparaiso University School of Law to investigate economic inequality in local and global context, exploring what the law and legal institutions can do to alleviate poverty.

Conference on Law, Poverty, and Economic InequalityJoin us as we examine contemporary constitutional strategies, formal legal strategies, and the relationship of both to grassroots anti-poverty campaigns; as well as the limitation of legal strategies in the face of entrenched, structural social and economic impediments to equality.
