Dr. Martin Luther King's niece to speak at Valparaiso Law

A civil rights leader who is the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will discuss spiritual and societal issues related to abortion during a visit to Valparaiso University School of Law on Sept. 19.

Alveda King, founder of the faith-based civil rights organization King for America, will present her talk at 4 p.m. at the School of Law. It is free and open to the public.

King also serves as African-American outreach director for Gospel of Life and is a prominent anti-abortion speaker. She has served in the Georgia State House of Representatives and is a former college professor.

The law student organization Jus Vitae is sponsoring King’s talk, as well as a Sept. 26 presentation by James W. Sedlak, vice president of American Life League.

Sedlak’s presentation at 4 p.m. in the School of Law also is free and open to the public. A former research physicist and manager at IBM for 30 years, Sedlak is the author of “Parent Power” and has written and lectured widely on issues related to abortion throughout the United States and overseas.
