College guide cites quality of law school

Thursday, October 5, 2006

Valparaiso University’s School of Law has been cited for academic excellence in Princeton Review’s 2007 edition of “The Best 170 Law Schools” guidebook.

In “The Best 170 Law Schools,” Valpo ranked high in academic quality, externship and clerkship opportunities, research resources and quality of student life. The guide also noted VU’s law professors are dedicated to teaching and make themselves readily available to students.

“For students seeking a small and community-oriented law school, they should know that a ‘truly personal manner of teaching’ is what distinguishes a Valparaiso education,” write the authors of the guidebook profile. “Students call their professors ‘true scholars’ as well as great teachers and describe classes as ‘thorough, difficult, rewarding and fair’.”

The guide also cites the quality of the VU School of Law’s extensive legal writing and research program and its clinical program, which provides valuable professional experiences in several areas of practice, including the nation’s first amateur sports law clinic.

“The professors here combine a fun and open learning atmosphere while maintaining professionalism and responsibility for the material,” said one student quoted in the guidebook.

The Princeton Review compiles its listing of the best law schools based on institutional data and student surveys of academics, quality of student life, selectivity and career placement.
