Four Valparaiso Law alumni honored by Indiana State Bar Association

Four Valparaiso University School of Law alumni have been honored by the Indiana State Bar Association with prestigious awards and presidential citations for their contributions to the profession of law.

Alumnus Richard Enyon '69 received ISBA General Practice Hall of Fame Award and alumnus Hon. David J. Avery '76 received the Outstanding Judge Award. Alumni Hon. Tim A. Baker '89 and John D. Papageorge '92 both received ISBA presidential citations.

Richard S. Eynon's outstanding contributions to clients, the legal profession and the community were recognized at the Indiana State Bar Association's annual meeting, where he received the GP Hall of Fame Award, sponsored by the ISBA General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Section, on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Eynon, of Columbus, is a founding partner of the Columbus law firm Eynon Law Group and is the immediate past president of the Indiana State Bar Association. He is a member of the Bartholomew County Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Trial Lawyer of America and the American Judicature Society and Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. He is a Life Master Fellow of the Indiana Bar Foundation and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Eynon earned his B.A. from Valparaiso University in 1966 and his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1969.

Hon. David J. Avery received the Outstanding Judge Award at the Indiana State Bar Association's annual meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 10. The award is sponsored by the ISBA Young Lawyers Section.

Avery, of Fort Wayne, serves as a liaison to the Supreme Court's Commission on Continuing Legal Education and as chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Indiana Judicial Conference. Avery graduated from Illinois State University in 1937 and received his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1976.

Hon. Tim A. Baker's exceptional contributions to the profession of law and the citizens of Indiana were recognized at the Indiana State Bar Association's annual meeting, where he received a presidential citation from Richard S. Eynon, outgoing president of the ISBA on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Baker was appointed U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Indiana in October 2001. He serves as the chair of the ISBA Federal Judiciary Committee and has been the driving force behind both the retirement celebration for Hon. V. Sue Shields, U.S. Magistrate Judge, and most recently the "Relationships Between Congress and the Federal Courts" conference. He volunteered countless hours to this conference, which helped to lay groundwork for improved relations between Congress and the federal judiciary.

Judge Baker earned his B.A. in journalism from Indiana University in 1984 and was an award-winning writer for the Indiana Daily Student. He graduated with distinction from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1989, where he served as editor and writer for the Valparaiso University Law Review.

John D. Papageorge's exceptional contributions to the profession of law and the citizens of Indiana were recognized at the Indiana State Bar Association's annual meeting, where he received a presidential citation from Richard S. Eynon, outgoing president of the ISBA on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Papageorge is a member of Sommer Barnard's Litigation and Labor and Employment Law departments. He is also a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is chair of the ISBA IndianaDocs™ Committee where he has been instrumental in bringing about this newest benefit to ISBA members. He earned his B.A. from Indiana University in 1989 and his J.D., cum laude, from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1992.
