A Personal Profile of our 1L Students

The Office of Admissions is pleased to present this profile of our new first year students to the Valparaiso Law community: 2013 Entering Class Profile

Porter County Day of Caring

On August 23, current students and the Office of Admissions started off the school year by volunteering for the United Way’s Porter County Day of Caring.  There were over 100 teams that volunteered their time at local non-profits.  The Office of Admissions went to the St. Agnes Adult Day Center to have lunch and play bingo with the residents. A great way to give back to the community!

New Addition to the Office of Admissions

The Office of Admissions is pleased to welcome Adam Greathouse to their team as Assistant Director of Admissions. Adam graduated from Valparaiso Law in 2012 and practiced law for the last year in Lawrenceville, Illinois. While a law student, Adam was a judicial extern for Judge Nuechterlein and an intern for Senator Mark Kirk in Washington, D.C.  Please stop by the office to welcome him back to the Valparaiso Law community.

Bar Exam Registration Information

Each state has its own bar registration and admission rules. Those who intend to practice law are encouraged to become acquainted with the rules in the state in which they plan to practice, especially those rules relating to registration deadlines and specific courses or course credit hours that might be required during law school. Generally, registration for the bar exam is required during the student’s third-year of law school. However, a few states offer financial discounts and encourage registration for the bar exam prior to the student’s third year:

Alabama: Law students are encouraged to register within 60 days of starting law school (registration fees increase after the 60 day period)

Florida: Law students are encouraged to register in the first year of law school (financial discount available if file by January 15 of the first year)

Illinois: Law students are encouraged to register in the first year of law school (financial discount available if file by the March 1 of first year)

Iowa: Law students are encouraged to register by November 1 of the first year of law school  (registration fees increase after that date)

Mississippi: Law students are encouraged to register by October 1 of applicant’s second year of law school  (registration fees increase after that date)

North Dakota: Law students are encouraged to register by October 1 of the second year of law school, or 14 months after the first day of the first year (registration fees increase after this time)

Ohio: Law students are encouraged to register by November 15 of the applicant’s second year of law school (registration fees increase after that date)

Oklahoma: Law students are encouraged to register by October 15 of the second year of law school (registration fees increase after that date)

Please check your state’s board of bar examiners website for additional details.  If you have any question regarding bar registration or bar applications, please contact Bethany Lesniewski or Kim Kass.
