CLE Lecture – Hot Topics for the Indiana Secretary of State

Wednesday, November 20, 11:00 a.m., Ulbricht Classroom

The Indiana Secretary of State will discuss business identity theft, fraudulent UCC filings, legislation for rejecting those filings, UCC 2010 amendments and how the Secretary of State’s office is dealing with fraud as an ongoing issue.

Connie Lawson serves as Indiana’s 61st Secretary of State. As Indiana’s Chief Elections Official, she is focused on ensuring integrity and security for our state’s elections. Since taking office, Secretary Lawson has passed the most sweeping election reforms since photo ID. She has worked to clean up voter rolls, added criminal penalties for election violations and started a program to compare our voter registration records with 22 other states to identify voters registered in more than one state or who try to vote more than once in the same election.

Annual Law School Thanksgiving Luncheon

For more than 25 years, Valparaiso Law School has had a tradition of providing a Thanksgiving meal to students who remain behind at the Law School to study rather than venturing home for Thanksgiving Break. Once again the Thanksgiving Luncheon will take place on Monday, November 25th (the first day of Thanksgiving Break) from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., in the Wesemann Café.

Tickets for the Luncheon are now on sale at the Law Library’s circulation desk. The cost of each ticket is $8.00, with $2.00 from each ticket sale being donated to Hilltop Neighborhood House, a local non-profit dedicated to serving those in need in the Hilltop community surrounding the Law School. In addition to the monetary donation provided to Hilltop House, a food drive will be held to benefit Hilltop’s food pantry. If you would like to contribute, you are invited to bring a canned or boxed good with you to the luncheon. Particular items needed now include canned meats (tuna / spam), canned ravioli, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, cereal, and waxed paper.
