VUSL Mock Trial Team generally hosts tryouts twice per year.
For tryouts, applicants are expected to present an opening statement OR closing argument AND a cross examination. A fact pattern is provided for the applicant to work with. Judging is scored by the executive board based on presentation, comfort in the courtroom, courtroom presence, and oral advocacy skills. Scores generally do not reflect substantive critique, however the board is free to take substance into account. Members are selected by the executive board and notified as soon as possible by posting and/or email. The number of available slots varies from year to year.
