The Student Bar Association (SBA) is the governing body for the students at Valparaiso University School of Law. The SBA is responsible for the promotion of the academic, professional, and social well-being of all students at the School of Law. Therefore, the SBA seeks to enhance the development of well-rounded scholars and individuals in the legal community. This goal is accomplished by pursuing the best interests of legal education and instilling the high ideals and professional standards that are expected by the American Bar Association as well as what is expected of VUSL alumni. In addition, the elected SBA Administrative Council represents the concerns and interests of the VUSL student body. All students are welcome to serve on one or more of the SBA committees and organizations.
The SBA is composed of all students who attend VUSL. In addition to regular membership, 17 student representatives, including five executive officers, are elected by their peers to serve on the SBA Administrative Council. This administrative body is committed to enhancing both the students that it represents as well as the entire community of Valparaiso and beyond. The Administrative Council oversees a myriad of school-related activities, philanthropies and fund-raisers, as well as formal and informal social functions.
The Valparaiso University School of Law SBA is committed to the students it represents and asks for an equal commitment from its students in return. The education of future attorneys is not solely an academic one; the fundamentals of a VUSL legal professional include, in addition to a devotion to scholastics, a balance between moral responsibility, social grace, and leadership potential, creating a true asset to the legal community.
