To promote a welcoming environment within the School of Law for all students, staff and faculty, the Safe Space Program provides a method by which all members of the Law School community can discuss any concerns that he or she may have related to diversity and equality with any member of the committee in a non-judgmental and non-threatening atmosphere.
Originally designed by and for the LGBTQ community, Valpo Law has endeavored to broaden the program so that all students with concerns or questions regarding (among other things) gender, religion, culture, race and/or women's issues will have the opportunity to talk to a trusted administrator in confidence. Administrators and student leaders who participate in our program are provided with resources to assist anyone who approaches them with concerns. Safe Space participants are identified by a sticker on their office door and are prepared to listen and respond to students with questions or concerns.
Valparaiso University prohibits discrimination and harassment by all faculty, staff, and students. In order to foster an environment of respect and dignity for all members of the Law School community, individuals are urged to report all incidents of harassment, whenever they occur, to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Director of Student Relations, or any faculty or staff member whose office displays the Safe Space logo. All such conversations will be confidential.
