A Note from the Dean

Dear Alumni and Friends,

It is difficult to believe that the 2012-13 academic year is completed. It is an exciting time for Valparaiso University Law School. We have been hard at work recruiting, admitting, and working to retain the entering Class of 2016. Despite a national trend of sharply declining application numbers, VULS received nearly 1,300 applications from prospective students for the 2013 enrollment year, a decline of 14% from the 2012 application numbers.

On Friday, June 14, 122 students who are committed to Valparaiso Law through submission of their full deposits traveled to the Law School to experience our Meet Valparaiso Law day-long event. In addition to meeting and working in groups with their future classmates, our visitors learned about the first year curriculum, participated in several law-specific problem-solving activities, and were briefed on key components of academic success in law school. They interacted with and learned from Valparaiso Law Deans, key first-year faculty members, alumni, and a range of current law students.

Our alumni are a core part of our institutional strength--indeed, we would not have had such a successful Meet Valparaiso Law day without the participation of alumni. In this and other ways, we are working to stay connected with all of you.

Through this e-newsletter, we will strive to keep you informed about the law school and about each other. Please provide us with news about yourself and important alumni-related activities that we could include in future alumni e-newsletters. We appreciate your on-going support.

Sincerely,
Ivan Bodensteiner
Dean and Professor, Valparaiso University Law School
