Congregations
Some deaconesses work in congregations. Their responsibilities vary according to their gifts and the needs of the congregations.
Deaconess Jan Janzow has served as Deaconess of Music at Ascension Lutheran Church in Waukesha, Wisconsin since 1976. She directs adult and children's choir, plays organ, piano and keyboard, and administers all musicians and choirs at Ascension. Jan also plans all festival worship.
Jan is active in the Lutheran Deaconess Conference and serves on the Greater Milwaukee Synod Candidacy Committee.
Deaconess Deborah Matern Graf serves at Trinity Lutheran Church called to the areas of Christian Education, Youth Ministry, Mission and Service, and small group programming. Deborah is rostered as an Associate in Ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
In 2000, Deborah was appointed by Bishop Strobel to a Ministry Leadership Team of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the ELCA.

Barb Herzinger is deaconess of youth and family ministry at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Michigan City, IN. She teaches catechism, lead's the children's choir, and oversees the education programs and a variety of music programs. |
