Reserves FAQs
Here you can find the answers to some of the more common questions with regard to putting items on Reserve in the Christopher Center. For information on Circulation in general, please visit the Circulation Department homepage.
What items can I place on Reserve for my courses?
You can place anything from books to videos to personal microforms on Reserve. Personal items can be processed for Reserve in addition to items owned by the library. Material such as Reference books can rarely be put on Reserve since they are Library Use only.
How do I place items on Reserve?
To place an item on reserve, professors can use our online reserve form (http://www.valpo.edu/library/circ/reserves.html) or fill out a form in person at the Circulation Desk. It usually takes a maximum of five days for items to be processed and ready for students’ use.
What are the lending periods for Reserve items?
You determine the loan period which may be 2-hour library use only, 2-hour overnight, 3 days, or 1 week.
How do students locate items I have on Reserve?
A complete listing of reserves by course title and professor is available in GALILEO, our online catalog. Simply follow the instructions from the Main Menu offering "Reserves" options. Circulation personnel are glad to assist students with locating Reserve materials. Please remind your students that anyone wanting to check out items of any kind from the Christopher Center must have their ID card with them.
Can I have multiple copies of an item on Reserve?
Certainly you can. Circulation staff can help guide you with regard to the number of copies to put on Reserve given the size of your class and the type of item.
Does the library make copies of Reserve items for faculty?
The library does not make photocopies of items to be placed on Reserve. Professors are responsible for bringing in however many copies of an item they wish to have on Reserve.
