Professor Umbach joined the Valparaiso University faculty in the fall of 1960. She works in the Technical Services and Cataloging areas.

Prof. Umbach gained valuable experience as a VU student assistant in the original library on the Old Campus. In addition, she was Reference Librarian in Moellering Library from 1960-1964.

Professor Umbach is a frequent traveler to Europe and the British Isles. She has also visited Russia, China, Israel, Jordan, and Egypt. In addition, she’s been on a grand Around-the-World Tour. She maintains an interest in Classical and Sacred music as both a concert-goer and as a member of the Adult Handbell Choir of Immanuel Lutheran Church. When her busy schedule permits, she is an avid reader of mystery stories.
