Faculty Resources: Teaching Support

Are you an adjunct faculty member here at VU? In addition to the links below, be sure to check our Adjunct VU Faculty Resources for quick answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding our library services.

Instruction Services

The Library's Instruction Services team provides discipline-related instruction for specific courses that enables students to learn about the breadth of library resources in all formats available to them locally and at remote locations.

Course Reserves/E-Reserves

Materials are placed on reserve by the professor of the course who fills out a reserve form. The professor determines the loan period which may be 2-hour library use only, 2-hour overnight, 3 days, or 1 week.

Copyright Information

It is the intent of Valparaiso University Libraries to adhere to the provisions of the U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, United States Code Sec. 101 et seq.) Although there continues to be new controversy regarding interpretation of copyright law, the Libraries make every effort to operate legally.

Equipment Loan

The Christopher Center houses a small collection of presentation media that may be borrowed by individuals for use off campus. Most academic buildings house presentation equipment, which is provided and maintained by IT. Verify the availability of classroom equipment before you decide to borrow equipment from the library for use on campus.

To find out more about equipment loan, click here.
To reserve equipment, phone (219) 464-5774.

Using the Christopher Center for Class Meetings

While only tiered classroom 205 is scheduled for regular class meetings, other spaces in the Christopher Center may be reserved for occassional use. The training rooms, 261A (39 computer stations) and 261B (24 computer stations), and the IT alcove may be scheduled through the library. The community room, Board of Directors Room, and the conference rooms on 3rd and 4th floors are scheduled through the Union Office.

Other spaces, such as the fireplace lounges, may be used informally as occasional meeting spaces for your classes. We ask that you do not use open spaces on 3rd and 4th floors for class discussion as these are quiet study spaces.

Adding Materials to the Library's Collections

Christopher Center Library Services has established a liaison program to foster partnerships with departments and colleges throughout the VU campus. Through this program, librarians work with departmental faculty on issues such as collection development and library support for coursework. All types of library materials - including books, CDs, DVDs, and scores - are acquired through the liaison program.

Did you see a wonderful book at a professional conference? Let your liaison know! And while the conference discount might be nice, we've found that it is more cost-effective and faster for us to order the materials through our distributors.

To find out more about the liaison for your department or college, click here.
To suggest the library purchase materials outside of your department or college, click here.

Writing Center

The Writing Center offers conferences face-to-face and online, with trained peer consultants and professional staff and is located on the 1st floor of the Christopher Center.

Teaching Resource Center

The Christopher Center is the home of the Teaching Resource Center (TRC) which is located in the 4th floor Faculty Study. The TRC regularly sponsors workshops and other programs to help VU faculty strive for excellence in teaching and promote active learning.
