Periodicals and Journals

The Periodicals Department tracks receipt of current periodical issues and prepares them for shelving and binding. In the Christopher Center, the most current five years of most periodicals (journals, magazines, serials, and so on) are kept in call number order on the first floor just beside the Meadow Reading Room. The older issues and volumes are stored in the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) and may be accessed using GALILEO. To do this, perform a title search in GALILEO and then follow the online instructions for requesting the desired issue(s) and/or volume(s).

GALILEO displays periodical records to help you track down the specific issues that you need. For more help with GALILEO, see the user tips. For access to journals available online, use JournaLocator to determine whether or not the library has access to the title, if the date you require is available, and through which online resource the item can be accessed.

The library user guide, Accessing Journals and Periodicals, provides you with information on how to search, access, and retrieve journal and periodical articles from the many formats that are available (print, electronic, microform).
