USING THE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POLICY IN COMMUNICATION CHANNELS

The University disseminates the Equal Employment Opportunity Policy through the following activities and processes:

Internal Dissemination

  1. Valparaiso University's Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policy is contained in the Staff employee and Faculty handbooks which are distributed to all employees, respectively.
  2. The EEO policy is discussed in all new employee orientation sessions. The Reaffirmation Notice is included in the new employee orientation information.
  3. The Affirmative Action Officer is readily accessible to all employees and is available to discuss EEO questions and concerns.
  4. EEO related policies and required posters are displayed clearly on bulletin boards for review by employees.
  5. The EEO policy is clearly stated on the University website.
  6. The EEO policy is reviewed with all employees on an annual basis.


External Dissemination

  1. The EEO policy is clearly stated on the University website.
  2. All recruiting advertising contains the tagline "Equal Opportunity Employer" or "EOE."
  3. The University's EEO policy statement is clearly stated on the employment application.


Short Form - Recommended for employment advertising:

"Valparaiso University is an EEO employer."


Long Form - Recommended for employment policy manuals:

"Valparaiso University maintains a policy of equal employment opportunity for all employees and applicants for employment.  The University does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation or (as qualified herein) religion or any other protected classification under federal, state, or local law.  This policy applies to all aspects of employment including, but not limited to, recruiting, hiring, training, transfer, promotion, job benefits, pay, dismissal, social and recreational activities.  An institution committed to its Lutheran traditions, the University reserves the right to promote the teachings of the church and to exercise preferences in employment-related practices in favor of Lutherans."
