American Hungarian Research Experience in Mathematics

The American Hungarian Research Experience in Mathematics is a partnership between Valparaiso University and the University of Debrecen to engage undergraduate students in mathematical research. During the summer of 2008, faculty from the University of Debrecen will be visiting Valparaiso University to lead research projects.
The AHREM program is looking for exceptional students from undergraduate institutions. We encourage applications from first generation college students, minority students, and women. Being committed to study mathematics at the graduate level is not a prerequisite for participation.

Program Highlights
- Talks by visiting mathematicians
- Participation in two undergraduate research conferences
- Participation in the Joint Mathematics Meetings
- Visits to Graduate Schools

Stipend
Each participant will be provided with residence hall accomondations on campus, a $4,050 stipend, and travel reimbursement to Valparaiso University for the summer and partial travel reimbursement to the Joint Mathematics Meetings in January, 2009.
Location
Valparaiso University is located 20 minutes south of Indiana Dunes National Park, which rests on the edge of Lake Michigan. Chicago's Randolph Street Station, located in the loop, is only an hour train ride.

Applicant Requirements
- Application Deadline: February 22, 2008
- Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or its possessions
- Must be a full time undergraduate student in 2008-2009
- Must have completed a linear algebra, or another proof based course.
