TEACHING CERTIFICATION

Students interested in becoming secondary or middle school mathematics teachers should be in contact with their mathematics advisor as soon as possible during their freshman year.  They will be admitted to the education program during their sophomore year, but need to initiate an efficient plan of study before that time.

Students planning to be secondary teachers will earn majors in mathematics , and a secondary major in education.  There are also several courses that are required to be part of a student's plan of study which are not part of either major.

Students planning to teach middle school mathematics do not need to complete the entire mathematics major, but the courses that are required need to be carefully sequenced.  These students also need to have a second academic area concenteration in science, social science, or language arts.  They also need to earn a major in education.

Please see our plans of study for more information.
