Department of Mathematics & Computer Science

The faculty in the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science are engaged teachers who challenge students to achieve at their potential.  By getting to know each of their students personally in small classes, faculty members are able to provide excellent mentoring as well as individualized instruction.  By participating in local, regional, and national workshops, the faculty are constantly improving their teaching skills and staying current with trends in undergraduate education.  Many involve students in undergraduate research projects which blur the line between teaching and research and provide participating students an intimate look at the world of mathematics and computer science.

Faculty members are active professionally, with individuals involved in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), American Mathematical Society (AMS), the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).   They have a correspondingly wide variety of scholarly interests ranging from mathematics education, mathematical modeling, and pure mathematics, to statistics, actuarial science, and computer science.

Significantly, the faculty are a highly collegial group of people who treat each other, their students, and their professional peers with respect.   They work hard to listen to each other and to support each others’ needs, goals, and plans.  Many are active leaders on University committees and also leaders in the public community as well.
