- Joint Mathematics Meeting - New Orleans, January 2011
- Several of the faculty in the department attended the Joint Mathematics Meeting in New Orleans this January. Mindy Capaldi gave a talk titled "Teaching Proofs in Abstract Algebra: How Important are Proof Structure, Group Work, and Student Presentations?" Ken Luther attended a committee meeting of "Math Across the Disciplines"; Ken also directed short interviews at the meeting to begin the process of searching for two new faculty positions for the department. Alex Capaldi organized a panel on Forming Research Collaborations and also attended a NSF workshop on applying for NSF grants. Rick Gillman gave a panel talk titled "Reorganizing School Mathematics for Quantitative Literacy". Rick also presented a minicourse on "A Game Theory Path to Quantitative Literacy"; and attended many meetings and committees.
