The Department hosts an NSF funded REU program in mathematics and provides many opportunities for academic year research by its majors.  These opportunities give our majors a chance to experience the real world of mathematical or computer science research: beginning with rich ideas, conducting literature searches, developing new results, and sharing these results in written and oral form.  Students can participate in groups or individual research and present their papers at academic conferences throughout the year or at the Valparaiso University's Celebration of Undergraduate Scholarship.  The University has additional funds that students can request to support their research related travel and other expenses.
