Should YOU be a MUSIC MAJOR with a Music Industry Option
at VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY?
VU offers opportunities for students seeking careers in
music-related businesses. Our business emphasis track combines
the Liberal Arts Music Major with a professional internship and a
Minor in Business Administration. Students in this program will .
. .
- participate fully in the performing life of VU's
Department of Music.
- take special seminar-style courses to introduce you to
a wide range of opportunities
in arts management, recording technology, music publishing, retailing, and
manufacturing.
- take field trips to acquaint you with music-related enterprises and successful arts professionals throughout the Chicagoland area.
- establish a network of professional contacts.
- participate in Valparaiso's Music Enterprises Student Association, which sends a delegation each year to
the national trade show of the National Association of Music Merchants.
- complete a supervised internship, usually in summer, to provide "on the job" training
in a field and geographical region suited to your career plans.
- compete for a $1,000 NAMM award presented each year to an outstanding VU
student in the music industry track; (you're also eligible for music performance
scholarships).
Valparaiso University's Center for the Arts (opened
September 1995) functions as a working laboratory of
performance, production, presentation, and management.
The VUCA offers a wide range of opportunities for student
aides and interns in administrative and technical support
for the arts. VU graduates of this program are currently
employed across the country, including at Walt Disney
World in Florida, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the
Northwest Indiana Symphony, and the Benson Company in
Nashville.
The Bachelor of Arts with Music Industry Option requires 40 credit hours in
music, including the
professional internship; 56-59 credits in general education; and 21 credits in
business. Valparaiso University is an accredited institutional
member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
