Marcia Lewis, Associate Professor of Music at Valparaiso University, received both her bachelors and masters of music degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the doctoral degree in vocal performance from Northwestern University. Dr. Lewis taught at Augustana College (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) and at both Northeastern Illinois University and Triton College in the Chicago area, prior to coming to Valparaiso in 1978.

A mezzo soprano, she has been a soloist with numerous musical organizations in the Chicago and greater Midwest area and sung professionally with both the Lryic Opera Chorus and Chicago Symphony Chorus. On the Valparaiso University campus she has performed as soloist with the Symphony Orchestra and Choral Society, the Concert Choir, and the University Theatre Department, as well as appearing in numerous faculty solo and chamber recitals. Feature performances on the Valparaiso University campus include the alto solos in Bach's St John Passion, the Brahms Alto Rhapsody with orchestra and men's choir, and the role of Madame Armfeldt in Sondheim's A Little Night Music.

Dr. Lewis has directed choirs and operas and taught a variety of music courses including theory, musicianship and conducting, as well as interdisciplinary courses in music business, music education and integrative arts.
