Steve Ingle is Instructor of Bassoon at Valparaiso University and Concordia
University, River Forest. He is a former contrabassoonist of the Oregon
Symphony Orchestra and can be heard on recent OSO recordings of Shostakovich,
Benjamin Lees, and Michael Daugherty. As a member of the Civic Orchestra
of Chicago, Mr. Ingle performed with many of the world's leading conductors
including Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach,
and Pinchas Zukerman. An extensive freelance career has led him to perform
with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee's
Skylight Opera Theater, the University of Chicago's Contemporary Chamber Players,
the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, the Illinois
Symphony Orchestra, and many others. With the Spoleto-USA Festival Orchestra,
Mr. Ingle participated in the American premiere of Kurt Weill's Die Burgschaft, a
recording of which is available on EMI-Classics. In 2002, while on tour
with the Wisconsin Wind Orchestra, Mr. Ingle was heard on live radio from the
Amsterdam Concertgebouw. He has performed in studio sessions for television
and has taught and performed at the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Houghton,
Michigan, since 1998. He was a founding member of the Barossa Quintet,
appearing on the Dame Myra Hess and Music in the Loft series and at the Ravinia
Festival's Bennet-Gordon Hall. From 1999-2002, he worked with the Barossa
Quintet, in conjunction with the International Music Foundation and the Ravinia
Festival, to produce educational programs in Chicago public schools.
Mr. Ingle has also been active as a conductor, specializing in new music,
and has led premiere performances of works by Timothy Dwight Edwards,
Michelle McQuade, Frederick Gifford, and Dana McCormick at venues including
the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the Hot House-Center
for International Performance and Exhibition. He has conducted
music by Toru Takemitsu at the University of Chicago, and music by Gloria
Coates on a 1998 Members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra program featuring
new music by female composers. He has also led members of the Civic
Orchestra of Chicago in performances at the University of Illinois, Chicago,
and at Symphony Center and has been a guest conductor of the North Park
University Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Ingle is a former Music Director
and Principal Conductor of the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra in Homewood,
Illinois. He recently conducted the Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio at
the First Congregational Church, LaGrange, Illinois. Mr. Ingle holds degrees from the University of Tennessee and the Eastman
School of Music, where he was also awarded a Performer's Certificate in
1996.
