DESCRIPTIONS OF LARGE CURRICULAR MUSICAL ENSEMBLES

Chamber Concert Band (1 credit): the premier auditioned symphonic band at Valparaiso University, which plays the finest in band music on and off campus with special focus on original band compositions. Conducted by Jeffrey Scott Doebler.

The Luce Band (1 credit): an auditioned symphonic band focussing on the development of skills which forms the core of the University Community Band and also rehearses as a separate ensemble. Conducted by Jeffrey Scott Doebler.

University Community Band (.5 credit): a once-a-week no-audition group for students and members of the community, with regular public performances. Conducted by Jeffrey Scott Doebler.

Valparaiso University Symphony Orchestra (1 credit): the auditioned student symphonic orchestra, which performs major orchestral repertoire, music theatre, oratorio, and concerti. Conducted by Dennis Friesen-Carper.

Jazz Ensemble (1 credit): an auditioned "big band" which performs both traditional and contemporary jazz, with performance opportunities on and off campus and clinic experiences annually with top jazz legends. Conducted by Jeffrey C. Brown.

Valparaiso University Chorale (1 credit): a select concert and touring choir of 48 voices, seeking to uphold the highest standard of the choral art through performance of the greatest choral literature of all eras. Conducted by Christopher M. Cock.

Kantorei (1 credit): a select religious choir of 36 voices which serves as a choir of the Chapel of the Resurrection, specializes in festive liturgies, and sings a diverse repertoire of sacred music from chant to Bach to music in folk and jazz idioms. Conducted by Lorraine Brugh.

University Singers (1 credit): a choir which emphasizes vocal development and ensemble skills through study of significant works of choral and choral/orchestral music, for performance in worship services and concerts. Conducted by Angela Young Smucker.
