Bruce Evans is currently the Applied Jazz Band instructor at Valpo. He retired from careers as both a school music educator and librarian in the Gary Community School Corporation in Gary, Ind. In addition to his regular teaching duties he has conducted several jazz bass clinics at Valpo for Bass Day sponsored by the American String Teachers' Association. He received the B. Mus Ed from the Defiance College and the MME from Roosevelt University where he studied contrabass with Harold Siegal. He later studied with bassist Greg Sarchet of the Lyric Opera. Along with his Valpo music collegues William Foster and Jeffrey C. Brown, he performs regularly as a member of the Valparaiso University Faculty Jazz Trio as well as with other professional jazz ensembles in the region. Bruce is a resident of Valparaiso, Ind.
