Singing the New Song: Global Music in our Midst
A Workshop with Valparaiso University's Kantorei

Lorraine S. Brugh, conductor

Saturday, March 1, 2014, 1p.m. (EST)

First Presbyterian Church
300 West Wayne Street • Fort Wayne, IN 46802

This workshop will look at particular qualities of African, Asian, and Latin American song thatare rooted in a cappella singing. Participants willl earn elements of each culture’s music focusing onthe priority of melody, harmony or rhythm as the song’s basic building block. Understanding a song’s use in its original culture and unique theological perspectives will aid participants in choosing how to adapt and lead a global song to their own context. In doing this, Dr. Brugh and the Kantorei will involve the participants with singing and playing of the many different kinds of instruments. Global songs will be drawn from the recently-published Glory to God hymnal, as well as The Presbyterian Hymnal, Lutheran Service Book, and Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

Fee for the workshop is $35 per person, with a maximum of $75 from one parish or organization. To attend the workshop please download the registration form PDF here.
