Valparaiso University Presents Annual Christmas Concert: A Carol Festival

Performances on Dec. 6-7 at the Chapel of the Resurrection
and Dec. 8 at Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, Chicago

Valparaiso University’s Christmas Concert returns the first weekend in December with three performances in two spectacular venues — Valpo’s historic Chapel of the Resurrection and the famed Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center in Chicago.

Continuing an 80-year tradition, the Valparaiso University Christmas Concert: A Carol Festival features more than 200 student performers in the Chorale, Men’s and Women’s choirs, Chamber Concert Band, and Symphony Orchestra. Featured soloists this year include Yuan-Qing Yu, Chicago Symphony assistant concertmaster, Gregory Maytan, violin instructor, and Lorraine Brugh, University organist.

“Unique collaborations of voices and instruments present a dazzling variety of beloved Christmas carols and seasonal works,” said Dennis Friesen-Carper, Frederick A. and Mazie N. Reddel Professor of Music. “This year’s program includes selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” and Handel’s “Messiah,” settings by Britten, Willcocks and Rutter, as well as traditional favorites such as “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Silent Night.””

The concert opens the Christmas season for the University, community, alumni and friends from throughout the Midwest, with a special opportunity this year as the concert returns to Chicago’s premier venue, Orchestra Hall.

The Christmas Concert premieres Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m., with encore performances Saturday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m. at the Chapel of the Resurrection, and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center in Chicago.

Ticket prices for the Valpo concerts are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and non-Valpo students. Special pricing for the Chicago performance applies. For ticket pricing and information, contact the Valparaiso University Box Office at 219.464.5162.
