Chapel of the Resurrection Hosts Wangerin Preaching Series

WHAT: The Walter Wangerin Jr. Celebration of Excellence in Preaching Series, in its third year, brings notable clergy to the Chapel of the Resurrection. The series is sponsored by the Chapel, the Center for Church Relations, and the Institute for Liturgical Studies.
WHO: The Rev. Wesley Avram, senior pastor at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church in North Scottsdale, Ariz., will be the first of four preachers in this year’s series. Avram has served Presbyterian congregations in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and Wilmette, Ill., as college chaplain and member of the faculty at Bates College, as the Clement–Muehl assistant professor of communication at Yale Divinity School and as assistant professor in Yale’s Institute for Sacred Music. He holds a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. from Northwestern University and a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. He has also studied at the University of Sussex, The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, The Tantur Ecumenical Institute and the University of Chicago. While in seminary, he was awarded the Roberts Preaching Prize and the Graduate Fellowship for Pulpit Ministry.

He is the author of “Where the Light Shines Through” and “Anxious About Empire.”

• April 12 — The Rev. Tim Runtsch, Senior Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Fort Collins, Colo.
