Valparaiso University alumni Sue Heitmuller ’70 Zimmerman and Larry Zimmerman ’70 have committed $625,000 to fund multiple areas of interest at Valparaiso University. Sue and Larry established endowed funds for student scholarships, Study Abroad, the Institute for Leadership and Service and engineering faculty development. Additional support will be directed to multi-year, annual giving commitments to the Valpo Fund and the College of Engineering Dean’s Fund.

“Larry and I are blessed to be able to support Valpo,” Sue Zimmerman said. “We are both proud graduates, and our support reflects the varied areas of interest we have at the University. It is very gratifying to know that the endowed funds will impact students, faculty and programs in perpetuity.”

Sue earned a bachelor of arts in social work and Larry a bachelor of science in civil engineering. They are longtime benefactors and active volunteers at Valpo. They are both members of the President’s Circle, Kretzmann Society, Valpo Admission Network and Valpo Club of Washington. Sue received the Alumni Service Award, Larry is a recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award and they were presented with the Partners in Service Award.

Sue is a member of the University Guild and formerly served on the Alumni Association Board. Larry serves on the executive committee of Forever Valpo: The Campaign for Our Future and as chair of the College of Engineering National Council.

“Sue and Larry Zimmerman’s support of several areas demonstrates their commitment and passion for the entire Valpo community,” said Mark A. Heckler, Ph.D., president of Valparaiso University. “We are grateful for everything they contribute to the University through their time, expertise and resources.”

The Zimmermans’ commitment supports Forever Valpo: The Campaign for Our Future, a $250 million endowment campaign focused on raising permanent support for student scholarships, faculty development and programs that prepare students for lives of leadership and service. The Campaign was officially launched on Sept. 23, 2016, and has raised more than $156 million.
