Honors recital features senior music students |

Seven Valparaiso University music students who are graduating this month have been selected by the University’s music faculty to perform in the annual Senior Honors Recital on May 17. The recital will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts and is free and open to the public. Students selected to participate are: • Tenor Jonathan Busarow, a member of Valparaiso’s Chorale who won this year’s Student Concerto Competition and was a featured soloist with the Valpo Symphony Orchestra in a February performance of Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin. He is a music performance major from Xenia, Ohio; • Tenor John Nevergall, a member of the Chorale who performed Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe during his senior recital earlier this year. He is a music performance major from Elmore, Ohio; • Violinist Sarah Murray, a winner of Valparaiso’s 2007 Student Concerto Competition and featured soloist for Beethoven’s Romance in F for Violin and Orchestra with the Symphony Orchestra. She is a violin performance major from Valparaiso; • Baritone Chacriyar Chhuon, a member of the Chorale who performed works by Bizet, Ravel, Mozart and Schonberg during his senior recital and had a leading role in Valparaiso’s production of “Into the Woods” last fall. He is a music performance major from South Bend; • Organist Nicole Koehler, an officer in Valparaiso’s chapter of the American Guild of Organists who performed works by Buxtehude, Schroeder, Duruflé, Bach, Langlais and Messiaen during her senior recital. She is a church music major from De Pere, Wis.; • Mezzo-soprano Bethany Woodward, a member of the Chorale and a music education major from Westerville, Ohio; and • Contrabass Charles (CJ) Johnson, a member of Valpo’s Symphony Orchestra who performed works by Dragonetti, Koussevitzky, J.S. Bach, Proto and Bottesini during his senior recital. He is a music performance major from Newnan, Ga. |
