U.S. health system discussed Jan. 29
Mon, January 22, 2007 |
The advantages and disadvantages of both private and universal health care systems will be explored during a Jan. 29 event as part of Valparaiso University’s Conversations Project.“Universal Versus Private Health Care: Pros and Cons” will take place fro 7 to 9 p.m. in the Christopher Center for Library and Information Resources on campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Panelists will discuss and spark conversation among audience members regarding the benefits and drawbacks of private health care systems, such as that of the United States, and universal health care systems adopted in Canada and many European countries.
Featured on the panel are Dr. Virginia Shingleton, an associate professor economics who has done research on health care and other fringe employment benefits; Dr. Christoffer Grundmann, Eckrich professor of religion and the healing arts and a widely-published author who has written about the ethics of health care; and Dr. Carole Pepa, a professor of nursing whose specialties include health services delivery, health policy and health promotion.
Panelists and audience members will be invited to continue the conversation while enjoying refreshments during a post-event reception.
The goals of the Conversations Project are to promote non-partisan and non-adversarial discussion on issues of national importance, enhance mutual understanding and political reconciliation through community conversations, and to forge connections between the University and wider Valparaiso community. The program is supported by the VU School of Law and Valparaiso Project on Civic Reflection.
For more information about the Conversations Project, contact Dr. Jeremy Telman, assistant professor of law, at (219) 465-7811 or Jeremy.Telman@valpo.edu.
