Fri, May 16, 2008 |
An entrepreneur with 35 years of executive management experience has been named director of graduate programs in management at Valparaiso University.Bruce MacLean, who joined the faculty of Valpo’s College of Business Administration last year as a lecturer in management and previously taught part-time, will assume his duties in August. He has held management positions in large multinational corporations and medium-sized domestic corporations, and founded the start-up education and training technology firm World Class Communication Technologies in 1989.
Dr. Tom Boyt, dean of the College of Business Administration, said the extensive business experience MacLean brings to the graduate programs will serve students well.
“His energy and entrepreneurial nature will take our management programs to an even higher level of excellence,” Dr. Boyt said. “Bruce is a perfect fit to continue promoting the high standards that were set at the inception of our MBA program and that students know they will experience at Valparaiso.”
MacLean serves as board member for Level Planning Field, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Safe School Healthy Child Foundation. He also is executive producer of the Illinois Autism/PDD Training and Technical Assistance Project.
At Valpo, MacLean has taught courses in small business management and entrepreneurship, high performance organizations, business policy and strategy, and managing technology and change.
He earned his master of business administration from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
MacLean will step into the position currently held by Dr. Dean Schroeder, Schulz professor of business management. Dr. Schroeder will continue teaching in the graduate business program and pursue ongoing research and writing in the areas of managing ideas and innovation, using new technologies for competitive advantage and transforming companies into high performance organizations.
Valpo’s graduate programs in management include Master of Business Administration, Master of Engineering Management and Management Certificate programs, as well as MBA-JD and MBA-MSN dual degree programs. In addition to providing a solid foundation in core business functions, Valparaiso’s graduate business programs emphasize values-based leadership and environmental stewardship.
