Susan Adams is an associate professor of nursing and director of the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program (PMHNP) at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. She is certified as both a clinical specialist in adult psychiatric and mental health nursing and as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. Adams assisted in writing the first national certification exam for psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners offered by American Nurses Credentialing Center in the fall of 2000. She& is a curriculum consultant to other universities developing PMHNP programs throughout the U.S. and in Britain and Japan. She remains active in teaching, practice and research with research interests focused on the treatment of substance use and mental health disorders in women. Adams received her Ph.D. degree in 2007 from the University of Kentucky. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a Fellow in the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse.
