BIENNIAL CONVENTION NEWS
CHAPTER KEY AWARD
Dr. Carole Pepa receivesthe Chapter Key Award on behalf of Zeta Epsilon.
Zeta Epsilon received SigmaTheta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing’s Chapter Key Award at the 40thBiennial Convention in Indianapolis. The Chapter Key Award was established in1991 to honor chapters who excel in chapter-related activities: membershiprecruitment and retention, publicity and programming, professional andleadership development, and local, national, and international collaboration.This is the first time in chapter history that Zeta Epsilon has received thecoveted award. Treasurer Carole Pepa (pictured above) was in attendance toreceive the award.
DR. CAROLE PEPA IS RE- ELECTED
In other convention news,Dr. Carole Pepa was re-elected to the International Governance Committee. Dr. Pepa will serve another term,providing essential input into decisions governing the organization. Thechapter recognized Dr. Pepa’s work during the past two years and is especiallyproud of her commitment to serve on the International Governance Committee foran additional term. Congratulations Carole!
INDUCTION OF NORMAN VOLK

Newly inducted member, Norman Volk reviews poster presentations at the 40th Biennial Convention.
Norman Volk was inducted asan honorary member of STTI at the recent biennial convention. Mr. Volk wasnominated for induction by Dean Janet Brown and Dr. Nola Schmidt. Mr. Volk ison Valparaiso University’s Board of Directors and serves on the College of Nursing’sNational Council; as such, Mr. Volk has been extremely supportive of numerousCollege of Nursing activities.
MEMBERS PRESENT RESEARCH
Members Molly Grime and Julie Wingstrom provided a podiumpresentation at the 40th Biennial Convention. The undergraduatestudents received many compliments on their professional approach andpresentation style. Professor Elise Alverson noted, “Many of those inattendance did not believe that these were undergraduate students; they werepoised and well-prepared.” Zeta Epsilon chapter provided financial support forthe members.
ADVANCED CLINICAL PROCEDURES

Attendees of theAdvanced Clinical Procedures workshop practice suturing techniques.
The chapter provided theannual Advanced Clinical Procedures workshop on Monday, November 16th.Those in attendance were able to practice suturing, removing fish hooks,incising and draining abscesses, and using cryosurgery in simulated scenarios.Evaluations were very positive; attendees loved the hands-on experience.
RESEARCH GRANT FUNDING AVAILABLE
The semi-annual Lia Sophia jewelry sale in October netted aprofit of more than $600.
These funds will be used for grant funding offuture educational activities. The chapter has developed an application forgrant funding. The Research Grant Committee will award up to two $500 grants eachsemester. All members are eligible to apply. Applicants should submit the ZetaEpsilon Research Grant Application and include a description of the research or scholarly work which. Thedescription should reflect how the activity is congruent with Sigma Theta Tau’sorganizational mission and/or society vision and a brief, but specific,statement of how grant funds will be used. Completed applications should besubmitted by January 15th for spring awards and September 15thfor fall awards.
