![]() | Elise Alverson, MSN, FNP, BC, CNEAssistant Professor of NursingBiographyProfessor Alverson joined the Valparaiso University nursing faculty in 1984. She teaches in the undergraduate program and graduate program. Professor Alverson has had experience as a staff nurse in the operating room. She presently practices as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Valparaiso University Student Health Center. Professor Alverson is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty. In addition to teaching, Professor Alverson is involved in research. She has been published in the Journal of Nursing Education, Nursing Connections, Nurse Educator, Holistic Nursing Practice, Nursing Leadership Forum, American Journal for Nurse Practitioners, Journal of Community Health Nursing, and the AORN Journal. Her research area of interest includes health status of uninsured and underserved adults. She works closely with Dr. Theresa Kessler supporting undergraduate research. She has presented research at MNRS, MAIN, and STT International Convention. Professor Alverson received the 2001-2002 Caterpillar Award for Excellence in Teaching.
