Biography

Professor Cory joined the faculty in 2004. She teaches in the undergraduate program and guest lectures in the graduate program. Her area of expertise is in Maternal-Child Nursing. She comes to VU with previous teaching experience from Marquette University and Indiana University. Currently, she practices as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Hilltop Community Health Center, a clinic for the underserved, and is the nurse advisor to the Indiana Child Care Health Consultant Program. Professor Cory has experience as a staff nurse in pediatric intensive care, pediatric acute care, postpartum, wellborn nursery, and neonatal intensive care. She also has experience in community education with an emphasis in prenatal and newborn care. In the Advanced Practice Nurse role, she has worked as a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Pediatric Critical and Acute Care.

Professor Cory is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau, National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, American School Health Association, and North American Society for the Study of Obesity. In addition to her responsibilities in the College of Nursing, Professor Cory is a member of the board of directors at the Valparaiso YMCA, and she is actively involved on the steering committee for Indiana Action for Healthy Kids.

Her research interests are in primary health care for children and families, early childhood nutrition and physical activity, and childhood obesity prevention through school health. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago in Nursing Science.
